The seeking of knowledge. Thoughts and ideas. The hope of love. Each breath I take. Cheesecake, ice cream, steak, seafood, and coffee. A man who works with his hands and his mind. Celebrations. Hugs. Me.

Yep, that's me, with a keyboard under my hands, using my mind to its full potential. Of course programming is probably not the kind of work you were thinking about. What kind of handy-work, Jenna?

This little light o’ mine,
I’m gonna let it shine.
Everywhere I go,
I am gonna let it shine.
All alone in my room,
I’m gonna let it shine.

American Spiritual

There are lots of things: great coffee, food, timing a perfect passing shot, seeing someone well up taking in my work, making love, seeing a "lightbulb" go off in someone, being totally ruthless with friends, creative minds turn me on–these all motivate me but "this little light o’ mine" is the benchmark; it’s the spark–or the blaze, when it dances with concretes that makes my life worth living.

When my wife Karen reaches out to take my hand while we're on a walk. When my cat curled up in my lap turns his head upside down on my leg and purrs loudly. When the president [who I hadn't previously met] of the company where I worked comes up to me as says "I've heard good things about you. Nobody can fix these things.... but you can." When anyone says "Mike, I need you to figure something out for me." The expectation of new things to come and new discoveries that I can't even imagine now that I will learn about in my lifetime. The knowledge that there are likely people alive in the world today that will rival or perhaps surpass Einstein and Feynman in their abilities to understand and explain the wonders of the natural universe.

Dean: any kind of handy work. It's just a personal pleasure to see a man do certain things in which his mind is in concert with his hands: play an instrument, take a computer apart and putting it back together, perform surgery, writing, working a SLR camera, etc. In other words, men creating something consciously. I think it's sexy.

George,

This is a bit off-topic, about Jack Daniels...

I no longer drink alcohol, but there is one flavor I miss a lot. If you cut JD with 50% club soda and use lots of ice, the taste changes to a wonderfully pleasant "nutty" flavor and the harsh edge is knocked off.

Of course, by the time I stopped, though, I was not using club soda, ice or even the glass. I drank it straight from the bottle when I could get it...

Robert: you know, when I was 11, I had this view that any man (bascially, above the age of 16) would most reasonably want a woman who saw beyond the surface-y parts of life and delved beyond, fearlessly. And any man would know that and appreciate such a woman. I went into middle school expecting that, finally, males would appreciate me for what goes on in my head (expressed through my hands), rather than my clothing or my race. Boy, was I wrong!

Since then, I've made my own world. I've regained that view I used to have. Yes, not very many women hold the same view, and not that many men, either. It's part of what makes this forum special (to me).
