I just came back from seeing this. Wow!

I came out of the theater smiling and feeling great. Any reservations I had going in were gone going out.
It's better than any of the other Superman movies, better than Spider-man II, and, hell, even better than Batman Begins

You'll believe a Superman can...well, I don't want to spoil any surprises. See it and judge for yourself.

It's late. Maybe I'll gush more tomorrow.

Roger Ebert didn't like it. But, he did caption his review "Atlas Yawns" ;)

I'm planning to see this movie on a screen that is 7-8 stories tall (Imax).

Jealous?

Do yourself a favor. Don't read Roger Ebert's review. He gives away way too much that is better left as a surprise. The jerk.

I saw this on the smaller screen though it is playing on Imax locally as well. Maybe when I take my wife to see it we'll take in the Imax show, though I'm not sure when. She was too busy to go with me last night, I'm going to the ARI conference this weekend, and she's leaving for Poland in another week.

This has been a great week for me so far. Monday I went to see the Keith Emerson Band perform in Boston (that's Emerson of Emerson, Lake & Palmer fame) and they put on a great show. I went with an old friend who I hadn't seen in eleven years which made the night even more eventful. Last night I saw Superman Returns which I loved. This weekend it's the ARI conference and lectures by Lisa VanDamme and John Lewis and my daughter will be joining me for VanDamme's lecture.

In August, I'll be going with my old friend to see the Pretenders on the Cape before leaving with my wife for three days in New York, where we have tickets to see Jersey Boys (which just won a Tony for best musical) and Disney's new show Tarzan, and then it's off for a six day cruise to Bermuda. Finally, on Labor Day weekend, my wife and I'll be going to see Asia perform at Foxwoods.

Life is good.

The Keith Emerson band! Did they do a lot of ELP? Who's in the band? Any new stuff? Was it a good show?

Did they do a lot of ELP?
"Fanfare for the Common Man,""Karn Evil 9,"" From the Beginning,""Nut Rocker" and many more. It was almost all ELP music with a  smattering from Emerson's days with the Nice thrown in for good measure.
Who's in the band?
Keith Emerson: Keyboards
Marc Bonilla: Guitar and Vocals
Phil Williams: Bass
Pete Riley: Drums

Bonilla did an excellent job on vocals including a terrific rendition of "Lucky Man."
Any new stuff?
Emerson did a new piece which he performed solo on piano.
Was it a good show?
They performed for almost three hours and the show was superb. If you're interested, you can go to Emerson's web site to learn more.

From what I've read ('review'-wise, including Ebert's...and...agree/like or dis-agree/dis-like his reviews, he's ALWAYS worth reading), I definitely want to see this.

Unfortunately, so does my 13-yr old. Prob here is, he knows next-to-zilch about this alien-born demi-goddish, human-wannabe-and-global-protector, b-u-t, he wants to know more about him. (I shan't repeat all his questions re Supe's origin, etc). He's a Marvel (X-Men, Spidey, Hulk) fan, and not just 'cause of the recent movies, but because that's the 'fad' in his age-group (ok: THAT's probly from the movies). He's even got (and knows) the Marvel 'encyclopedia'; not exactly DC territory, ya know. He even barely knows about Wonder Woman. (Ok: he has no prob with Batman.)

Anyhoo, he heard there's an original Superman: The Movie (the classic Chris Reeve version; wow: a quarter-century old!) that was made and wants to see it 1st. Man, it's hard finding that sucker. It's either not around or...it's already rented out, and though late, not back yet (wonder why?) --- I understand this new movie 'picks up' sort of right after "Superman II" (ignoring the next/last 2...thank Ishtar).

Christopher Reeve 'made the mold' cinematically for this icon, fer sure, just as Sean Connery had for Bond. This new guy seems to be able to, well, fill his boots, so to speak, from what I've read and, maybe, was picked, partly, for his similar looks.

I don't expect it to be a Batman Begins ('specially from what I've read as to how Spacey handles Lex [ie: little different from how Hackman did him]...but, that's probably as to how Lex was written in the screenplay), but, I expect it to be worthwhile seeing, the only way such should be: on-the-big-screen.

LLAP  ---  "To Infinity, And Beyond..."         (uh, sorry)       "Up, UP...and AWAY!"

Yeah, Superman Returns is great. In a way, it seems almost Objectivistic in how it handles the 'moral' difference between Lex Luthor and Superman. Luthor sees any means to an end as acceptable, where as Supes recognizes he can't just do anything to get what he wants. In that, I think it's almost like an unspoken affirmation that morality doesn't hinder the man, but that it defines the man for better or worse.
