Barbara: This is brilliant but I'm concerned that this satire will be taken as a fact. Good satires dupe indiscriminating readers. In this case, it is almost believable that Edwards' views would be this extreme. Also, I doubt that Rather would actually run this piece unless it would be to partially compensate for his now well known bias in the past.

It was about a year or more ago that we had a "Russian General" on this board who claimed he was massing troops and was going to take over the world. Many ostensibly reasoning people actually believed him, and one, an admittedly naive youngster, thought we should listen to his point of view.

IMO it won't do the foes of Kerry or Edwards any good to publicize this further.

Sam, you wrote: "This is brilliant but I'm concerned that this satire will be taken as a fact."

I find it hard to believe that anyone could take it as a fact. If anyone does, he's dumb enough to vote for Kerry-Edwards anyway!

That, back in the 1960s and early 1970s, was actually the metier of National Review. They haven't done it in over a generalion, though.....

Wow.

I expected to have to defend my vote for Kerry in the upcoming election; I didn't expect to be called names (although I was not personally called anything) because of it.

I'd rather have more modest welfare-statism than outright fascism, and I'm willing to be called "dumb" to make that choice.
