Sam,

I think you've got num++ totally wrong - he's saying that the Democrats were demanding jobs by right back in the 60s, that they're still doing it today, and that in that respect there's been no progress in 40 years.

Tim: "However I must admit this rather crass gloat about Michael Moore perked me up a bit:

If Bush’s win was a night of hot sex, Moore’s failure was the cumshot.  "

I've been wondering if the tremendous turnout was in some part a backlash Michael Moore's duplicitous flagellations? How many honest Americans I wonder thought to themselves on election morn something like: "That slob Moore has no doubt persuaded lots of ignoramuses that Bush is a baddie, but I'm arsed if I'm going to let that weenie Kerry be elected because of a dumbarse liar people are too inept to see though - I'll go out now and vote Bush just to make sure of victory!"

Two possible causes for celebration then on this count: First, it turns our Americans aren't as dumb as Moore thought. And second, wouldn't it be nice Micheal Moore's lying and duplicity helped Bush win. :-)

Hahahahaha!! :-))

Bush won. Yes, indeed. Gee, now: I wonder what mayhap the future will be like??

Foreign Policy: irrational, faith-based, Apocalypse-maniacal, lazy, stupid incompetence by a clueless, giddy, in-over-his-head proven hack and failure who violates foreigner rights and trashes the Constitution, and someone who no-one likes, trusts or respects in our North Korean, islamic-crazy, nuclear-armed world.

Domestic Policy: Big Government spending, Big Brother surveillance, unconstitutional war, infinite detention without charge, more welfare state programs, lots of pork, no vetos, no spending cuts, no even empty promises of spending cuts, massive deficits, gross fiscal irresponsibilityand incompetence, and shockingly irrational and destructive tax-cut dementia, all of which will raise interest rates, and kill investor and consumer confidence, as he decimates what was until very recently the world's strongest economy.

I hope all you anti-freedom nitwit "libertarians" and "Objectivists" are satisfied. Under the Democrats, America bestrode the world like a colossus. Under Bush, we'll shrink down to the size of lowly Europeans. The feeling of doom is already palpable. We now have a government that is officially out of control and a situation which is institutionally hopeless. Better practice your stoic faces, folks. Better get your excuses, rationalizations, evasions, obfuscations, and lies ready. You're going to need them for four solid years. The last remnants of the Clinton Era of freedom, prosperity, strength, and American greatness is now officially DEAD.

As Rand herself might put it: "Got what you wanted, all these months, gentlemen?"

It's funny that you mention this dynamic, Peter, as I had a similar conversation today with a friend of mine.  Rather than offering the "Moore Hypothesis," however, I suggested that perhaps the sight of all those young Democrats queuing up scared the hell out of the older Republicans and non-Leftists who hadn't bothered to vote in a while.  They finally got off the couch and into the voting booths.

Your idea is much more gratifying, however.  ;)

I think the cynicism, and snide, self congratulatory, faux intellectual superiority of the Moore/comedy central crowd lit a fire under the basically good, honest, hardworking American.

Let us look at Andre Zantonavitch and his "future" under Bush - This is the kind of post I might expect from the MoveOn crowd:

Foreign Policy: Irrational, faith-based - Perhaps you can tell me what rational Philosophy Kerry had?
Apocalypse-maniacal - I almost wish, because such a man would have nuked the middle east, I should think.
lazy, stupid incompetence by a clueless, giddy, in-over-his-head proven hack and failure - This is not exactly rational criticism, just invective.

who violates foreigner rights and trashes the Constitution - Foreigner Rights?  Foreigners don't have rights in the USA except those we decide to grant them, what are these foreigner rights?  As to the constitution, I would say that the continual erosion of the right to property, the ceding of US interests to the UN (or the Earth Mother Goddess the enviro-nazis worship), would qualify more so than whatever Bush has done.  Where is the ACLU when our right to property is violated?  No constitutional complaints there, huh?  And the ado about faith based grants?  does it matter?  Its the SAME THING.  There is no difference in taking money by force and granting it to others through a government program, based on a socialist-communist MORAL viewpoint (if it were not a Moral issue, why do it?), than doing it by a faith organization.  In fact, they probably are less corrupt than the various private corruption-riddled groups I see get government funds.  Here in Philadelphia, that money is going to some Islamic guy who is now arrested by the FBI, all he did was scam the money away.  Tell me that is better than giving it to at least a legitimate Christian charity?  It isn't better.

, and someone who no-one likes, trusts or respects in our North Korean, islamic-crazy, nuclear-armed world. - Are these the foreigners again?  I would have to say that the problems of North Korea and the Islamo-Fascists have as much, if not more, to do with Foreigners as the USA.  Let us see, the Middle East was a mess created by the British, the Germans, with some French help, exterminated Jews in Europe and then decided to help them make Israel, the Chinese I seem to remember invading North Korea after they had lost, thereby assuring a North Korea (unless we had decided to risk going to nukes).  I don't want the respect of China, North Korea, France, and other socialist cesspools.

Domestic Policy: Big Government spending - I see, the spending for National Healthcare will save us money, correct?  Did you bother to look at what kind of spending Kerry voted for?
, Big Brother surveillance, unconstitutional war, Congress voted on the war, its not unconstitutional, even Kerry never said that  Oh, and what about when Kerry's people told Sinclair that they had "better hope we don't win" - sounds like Big Brother to me.
infinite detention without charge,
more welfare state programs, lots of pork, no vetos, no spending cuts, no even empty promises of spending cuts, massive deficits, The Democrats do more of this than Republicans. You cannot seriously thing that they are for cutting welfare and spending programs???  Come on!
gross fiscal irresponsibilityand incompetence, and shockingly irrational and destructive tax-cut dementia
The Tax rates are not high enough now for you?  Do you have an understanding of economics and how raising taxes will damage the economy?  I agree we need to cut the deficit, but reducing spending and taxes is more important now, especially while fighting a war.
, all of which will raise interest rates, and kill investor and consumer confidence, as he decimates what was until very recently the world's strongest economy.  Oh, maybe that would explain why any hint of a Kerry win plunged the market, and the opposite was true of a Bush win?  Those people who live, breathe, and eat finance can't know anything about investment, now can they?

As to this garbage (below), I recall total ineptitude under Carter, and a rising America under Reagan, I lived through it.  Bush is no Reagan, but Kerry was close to being a full-fledged traitor, having helped the Communists to win in Vietnam, denigrated his fellow veterans, suggesting the USA paying "reparations" to the Vietnamese, and his belief that Communism could never be defeated - and he never repudiated these beliefs, either, he just got slicker at hiding his evil.  Move to France, I would suggest, you will love it there.

I hope all you anti-freedom nitwit "libertarians" and "Objectivists" are satisfied. Under the Democrats, America bestrode the world like a colossus. Under Bush, we'll shrink down to the size of lowly Europeans. The feeling of doom is already palpable. Miss Branden,

I do not appreciate your sarcasm at Michael Moore's expense. At a time like this, while his father lies in his death-bed, you should have a greater sense of compassion.

Damn it Branden! Thats right, I said Branden without the "Miss" before it!

Gezzzzzzz how I hate sharp people!

Look here, this was the way this was suppose to work:

1. I make my post defending Moore and referencing his father.
2. You say, "Is his father ill? I never heard that".
3. My next post says, "Haven't you heard Arafat is dying". I then add a PS that says, "you must admit, he looks just like his old man".
4. You respond with a, "ROFL", and a long list of comments about how incredible and witty I am.
5. I respond with a , "Thank you" and a some feigned humility.

Now damn it, don't you ever do this again! There is a natural order to things Miss Branden, and YOU have upset the balance of nature.

George

A post-election cautionary tale:

"Once upon a time there was a horse who lived in mortal fear of a wolf. Knowing that he could not beat the wolf alone, he befriended a man, and convinced the man that he should help defeat the wolf on the grounds that the wolf is also the man's enemy. The man agreed, on the condition that he be allowed to bridle and saddle the horse to take advantage of the horse's speed. The horse agreed, and the two together were able to defeat the wolf."
"Once the wolf was defeated, the horse said, 'Thank you, now free me from the bit and saddle,' to which the man replied, 'NEVER!' and from then on applied the spur at will."

Sam, you indeed miSamterstood me! Duncan Bayne's take on it is correct (Thanks Duncan!).

I did make an honest error. Checking my memory against an Internet transcript, the words I quoted were from Edward's introduction of Kerry's speech, not Kerry's speech per se. I must be getting old...

George, you are sharp yourself. And witty. There... nature's balance is restored. (Remind me never to play chess with you. You see 5 moves ahead!)
