People are being uncool to take Clements seriously. The last anyone heard of him he got a few hundred votes (correct me if I'm wrong on this) in California's free-for-all 2003 gubernatorial election. When you consider that several thousand voters would have been Objectivists and that only about half of these were sniffy ARI loyalists, this is a remarkably poor showing. He has no track record as a real-estate developer, and this isn't succeeding as a publicity stunt; nobody but the already-converted is talking about it.

What was there to lose by the candidacy for Governor? All he had to do was plunk down $3000 and he got in a plug for Atlas Shrugged in the election booklet. I thought it was pretty ingenious myself. He also started American Venture magazine by himself and sold it for a tidy profit. If all that is left of Justice Souter's house is a pile of rubble and it stays that way, this is a worthwhile investment.

Also, the was mentioned on the Rush Limbaugh show and on his website. If all he accomplishes is to get a few hundred people to read Atlas Shrugged, it will be worth it.

Dead wrong about getting nothing but groupie attention: you can find it carried by Associated Press, which goes everywhere.

No, this was a positively brilliant p. r. stunt, and wonderfully educational. If Logan had been as creative in his political campaign, he might have attracted more than just a few hundred votes.

I think the idea of "Give the bastards a taste of their own premises" has tremendous potential as a strategy of counter-attack against all manner of evil. Let's get creative, people.

I agree that it was a smart publicity stunt.

Re the protocol of reprinting articles from other sites, if the sites aren't giving permission to reprint, I think we should link to these stories rather than reprint them. That is standard and what the sites hope for--that links to their stuff will bring them new traffic. If permission to reprint has been granted that should be made explicit in the reprint.

I see the irony but if he shows any remorse the ruling might be revisited .

I live in Gary , Indiana and the green light tell me the residents of the Miller section in Gary are going to be hit by this ruling.

The Lake front is controlled by less than 100 homes .

I hate to say it but they are holding back progress and are stifling the community the lake belongs to the public.

A hotel resturants a marina fishermans warf and more accessibility for the public !

The current owners are complaining about the property taxes do to a reassessment and want government to cap their taxes they may as well sell.

This also gives developers at the Gary/Chicago Airport the go the FAA has given the go on certain parts

The only way the steel industry survived was to restructure and in order for cities of America to return to prosperity is with this ruling

I agree with your assessment that this is brilliant PR on the part of Logan Darrow. I found out about it via an item on the Fox News Channel and then found that the Boston Globe had posted a story on its web site. Logan is persistent and energetic, and I wish him the best. He's in Southern California at the moment, and he founded the Silicon Valley Objectivists group here in Northern California. Good going, Logan!

Mr. Reidy,

As several others have taken the opportunity to point out, knowledge (and celebration) of this story has in no way been confined to, "the already converted."

In addition to the other examples, for my part, I will admit to spending some of my free time discussing college hoops at ESPN.com. The day after Mr. Clements announced his intentions, even that message board was buzzing with discussion.

Even if he does not succeed in having the hotel built, he certainly has been successful in increasing awareness of Objectivist-esque principles, and providing the world with, through the use of irony, a concrete example of why the ruling was unfair, immoral, etc.
