Just a matter of personal experience. If I do it in the dark, I have a hard time getting the angle right.

And I could never manage it. I want my wife to hold me, not the blankets.

Never mind communicating, how is a person supposed to enjoy himself (or herself) if he can't let himself go? I know for a fact that sex (and even masturbation) feels a lot better when one is focusing on the sensation and not on trying to keep quiet.
On the other hand, if you're a guest in somebody's house, having really loud sex is probably a faux pas. There's a time for a hearty rebel yell, and a time for a sighing and whimpering. Context being everything, after all. :)
