I don't think this is multiculturalism so much as anti-culturism, as in, opposition to American culture and products and basically anything with any taint of the evil colossus that is our country. Including feta cheese from Wisconsin.

Ah well, I'm sure Greeks are smart enough to know that feta is feta, the meddlesome regulations of crypto-Orwellian European regulators notwithstanding.

No no, it's a great day for freedom!

Unfettered liberty is what we really want but lets start with dairy and work our way up the food-chain.

Frankly, I prefer knowing that what I buy is the real thing not an a la mode clone, that may or may not resemble the original.  What would happen to my favorite Cotes du Rhone, if they were simply the same varietal grapes blended and grown elsewhere?  The soil and the ambient climate contribute to the subtleties of taste and bouquet. I also feel this way about Westphalisher Schinken, Proscutto, Champagne, Provolone, Parmigiano-Reggianno, Tilsiter, Beluga, Maine Lobster and Kolbe beef, among other things glorious.

While this isn't going to keep me awake at night, I don't see the problem with the ruling.

Feta, like Champagne and other products are a brand name, and have marketable value. You can make sparkling wine wherever you like, and it may be superior to Champagne - but it is not Champagne.

Ya mean '82 Lafite would taste differently if the grapes had been grown in Lodi, NJ?

I kinda wish someone would "protect" pizza (yeah, I know... 'pizza' isn't a brand name) Seems  any creature with the ability to kneed dough and make fire can open a pizzeria.  But what they sell, most often, AIN'T pizza (particularly when they start topping it with pineapple -- makes me cry!).

Are you then suggesting pizza must stay stultified in time, with no newness in variations?  Pineapple and ham [hawaiian pizza] isn't so bad, really...

Yes, that's precisely what I'm suggesting!  Pizza is pizza.  If you want "variations", fine.  Just call it something else!!

And by the way, Hawaiian pizza is a travesty!  I mean, do I go around making Lomi Lomi Salmon Parmesan or Poi Bolognese??
