What would humanity have to offer an advanced life form?

Consider a quantum computing neural-net made from neutron-star matter, a brain the size of the Earth a few miles across, able to switch at nuclear speeds.

We couldn't offer it knowledge, energy, real-estate. Just amusement of its scientific curiosity.

I have very little time for the Environmental movement for two reasons.

Firstly, because most environmentalists fall into the bearded, wet wanker category, and secondly, for the bizarre proposition of considering humans to somehow be interlopers on the Planet... that there is something 'not quite legitimate' about our very existence.

They always fail to grasp the Darwinist attitude of every other species on the Planet.

An obvious example being the old environmentalist chestnut of 'Save the Whale'.

You never hear about a 'Save the Plankton' or 'Save the Krill' campaign.

Rev'rend,

When I integrate that with all possibility -- I get the feeling that you've been, personally, 'visited.' Obviously, they'd 'contact' the most interesting specimens first (individually) -- integrating THAT aspect of reality, am I to assume that you've already been probed??

It's more an "elementary, Watson" piece of logic - not that I would have had to be 'probed'..... lol

I don't take the continuation of the human race lightly; but at the same time one can drive one's self to hysteria by focusing on all the terrible and insane stuff in the world. I'm going to leave the conspiracy theories to the Lone Gunmen

I am not implying directly that anyone here takes the continuation of the human race lightly, but I do want to emphasize that everyone's conceptions of the threat level to humanity must be proper and rational.  With rapidly growing technology levels conspiracies will not be necessary, but like many other aspects of life it is worthwhile to strive to attain an Aristotlean golden mean in the areas related to this discussion; between hyper vigiliant hysteria and indifferent callous disregard for real threats, and between fuzzy logic and linear thought.

I think it is also important to remember that intelligent people with even with identical values can both have logically valid yet opposing conclusions because thier respective information sets may differ.

Regards,

Michael F Dickey
