Do you have proof that she was a commie? Or is that just the typical ad hominem attack of a war hawk?

Well the words before and after 'commie' are obviously correct and I group socialist and communists together anyway.

Without some evidence that some sort of statist intervention took place, the charge of "censorship" is at best speculative.

Chris, I could understand you much more easily if you would fully flesh posts like this with a brief but thorough analysis about why we should care.  A "peace activist" who purposely places herself before an Israeli bulldozer sounds too much like an "environmentalist activist" who purposely places herself before a corporate bulldozer.  Why should we care if either gets flattened into the ground for deliberately placing herself into harm's way?

Unlike the famous photograph of the Tiananmen Square protestor standing before the tank, this one requires more background.  While we know all about that Chinese massacre and the nature of its government, the idea that one can compare that government to the Israeli government stretches argumentation to its limits.

Please explain your position thoroughly.

This play apparently was quite popular. But it sounds like it was cancelled here for fear of offending some people (like the lobby that support's Israel's slaughter of everybody else in the Middle East). The Nation was apparently the only large publication that talked about it all.

Here is what Justin Raimondo had to say about it:

When plans to produce My Name Is Rachel Corrie, a play based on the journal entries of an American girl murdered by the IDF for her pro-Palestinian activism, were canceled in New York City this year, in the U.S. we only read about it in The Nation. When plans to put on Idomeneo, a Mozart opera, in Germany were recently canceled to placate Muslim sensibilities — the original has nothing to do with Muslims, or Mohammed, but the “post-modern” version that was being planned featured a scene involving the Prophet’s severed head being brought out onto the stage — we read about it … everywhere.

A full article about your view of the moral status of Israel would be helpful to publish here, Chris.  I fail to see how anyone can view them as an "initiator of force" rather than simply a "retaliator against force."  Perhaps a well-reasoned formal article from you can enlighten us.

Luke,

It seems like you aren't responding to my comments at all. The questions that Raimondo brought up are:

The play was cancelled--what is the reason for this?

Very few people talked about it--what is the reason for this?

The proper comment was - who cares.....   glorifying a person who supports terrorist pogroms hardly merit much consideration - and your anti-Israelie notions do not hold, themselves, merit consideration either, for the same irrational attitude [at least those ye spoken of in other threads]..

Does anyone here have any evidence that Rachel Corrie supported "pogroms"? Or are these just more baseless accusations made by The Weekly Standard?

We need more people like Justin Raimondo.

The dumb broad is named Chris, the stupid bitch...?

Unlike a cavity, if you ignore this pain in the ass, he will go away. He enjoys the response to his provocations, (as I am sure he enjoys this) and posts compulsively, like a Hannibal Lecter in lock-up with a dial-up. How difficult would it be to write a computer program that would spout the following crap? Examine it for actual content, and as whether it has been worth your 542 words of responses to him:

-Do you have proof that she was a commie? Or is that just the typical ad hominem attack of a war hawk?
-This play apparently was quite popular. But it sounds like it was cancelled here for fear of offending some people (like the lobby that support's Israel's slaughter of everybody else in the Middle East). - - The Nation was apparently the only large publication that talked about it all. Luke,
- It seems like you aren't responding to my comments at all. The questions that Raimondo brought up are:

A random number generator, a few stock epithets; "war hawk" and bugaboos; "The Weekly Standard" and the ability to parrot things back with a question mark - almost as impressive as that psycho-analysis program they wrote back in the 60's: "And how does that make you feel?" Let our resident auto-erotic provocateur write just one 500 word post in his own words, in essay form, with actual paragraphs, and then perhaps his ravings will be worth your response.

I agree with Ted's analysis.

Chris, you have some qualities that I like.  I really do.  I share your appreciation for Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and have enjoyed the exchanges we have had on that topic in other threads.  I can see that you have a willingness to break from conventional thinking using your own reasoning to get what you want in life.

But the other posters here have correctly noted that asking "little picture" questions about why this play got cancelled miss the "big picture" questions about why we should care.  Hence, I did not respond to your "little picture" questions.  Perhaps when you answer the "big picture" questions we might have more incentive.

Little picture: Play about woman who apparently placed herself foolishly into harm's way and dies gets cancelled.
Big picture: Someone who took an opposing side to the apparently moral state of Israel deserves our sympathy.

I have used the key term apparently because you seem to disagree with those "appearances."  You already know the commonly held viewpoints on this site and why people hold them.  The burden of proof falls on your shoulders to show us, preferably in a well-written and lengthy formal article, why we should change our minds.

Snide snipes will not do here.  I know you can write well from the NLP discussion threads.  Apply that good skill to this subject now.

I think misguided and naïve is a more apt description of Ms. Corrie. Who among us hasn’t done something stupid in our youth?

Hi, Luke,
Chris, you have some qualities that I like.  I really do.
I have come to the same conclusion about you. In fact, I feel like you want to agree with me, but just need a reason to go there.
But the other posters here have correctly noted that asking "little picture" questions about why this play got cancelled miss the "big picture" questions about why we should care.  Hence, I did not respond to your "little picture" questions.  Perhaps when you answer the "big picture" questions we might have more incentive.
I am fighting a rather lonely philosophical battle here, Luke. As a result, I am trying everything. Perhaps, it's my own desperation.

Other people have simply given up. I know that Chris Matthew Sciabarra agrees with me. He doesn't even come here.
Little picture: Play about woman who apparently placed herself foolishly into harm's way and dies gets cancelled.
Big picture: Someone who took an opposing side to the apparently moral state of Israel deserves our sympathy.
I think she was just doing what she felt was right. At least she was willing to get out there on the front lines. For that reason, I have more respect for Bush 1 than I do for Bush 2. At least the first one fought in WW2. Most of the war hawks simply treat this was the way they would treat the Super Bowl or the World Series.

I wasn't asking for or expecting sympathy, but it does show how the legacy media have skewed the whole debate on American imperialism.
I have used the key term apparently because you seem to disagree with those "appearances."  You already know the commonly held viewpoints on this site and why people hold them.
That doesn't mean they are right. As far as why people hold them, that I still don't know. My theories on the war hawk position is that such people have a very malevolent view of the universe or that they are simply angry and want to vent that anger on somebody. It seems consistent with my personal experience.
The burden of proof falls on your shoulders to show us, preferably in a well-written and lengthy formal article, why we should change our minds.
Would it work?

THINK OF IT AS EVOLUTION IN ACTION

Tupac Shakur had "THUG LIFE" tattooed across his belly, and carried a gun. When he was shot the first time, losing a testicle, he cried like a baby. Not from the pain, but with a "why me" whine.

Once, driving north on Delsea Drive through Pitman, NJ, a four-lane highway with a fifth lane in the middle for those making left turns, I was nearly struck head on by a a college girl talking on a cell phone. I was in the center lane with my light on for a left. She was on her cell phone, head turned 90º left to her side window, looking off into a distant parking lot, driving full speed straddling a lane that is closed to all thru traffic. I floored it and ran the light to avoid having her hit me, I could not have moved right without getting reared or broadsided. Afterwards, I thought, damn, now why did I save her life for her? I could have just hit her on the driver's side, I had my belt on.

Such people expect to act irresponsibly, and expect that others will protect them from themselves. As for the dumb broad, either she really was willing to give her life for such a cause, in which case she chose her crime and is doing the time. Or, she foolishly got herself into a situation way over her head, so to speak. If her death was intentional, then good for her, and for us. If her death was accidental, then just like Dennis Moore, "Stupid bitch, stupid bitch." I haven't followed the originating link on this page, but I do remember hearing the news when it broke. I remember thinking "Good for her!"

Rachel chose her crime, and she's doing the time, as fertilizer.

Ted Keer, 28 September, 2006, NYC

Dennis Moore, Dennis Moore, Riding through the land,

He steels from the poor, and he gives to the Rich...
