Hermitage hired Sergei Magnitsky from the law firm of Firestone Duncan to investigate. Magnitsky was arrested and held in prison without charges until he died in 2009, after 359 days, one day short of the legal maximum that you can be held without being charged in Russia.
He accidentally died that day, huh? This sounds so cliche` that you'd even expect it as plot turn in a James Bond movie, or something ...

Then, Putin lifted his finger and ordered the summary execution of the so-called traitors -- by dangling them over a pit of alligators and slowly lowering them into the pit by crane. He laughed maniacally as those he had personally charged with treason were being lowered to their doom. "Soon, I will rule the world! Muwahahahaaaaaaaa!"

Let's hope it's not life imitating fiction.

7:34am EST By Thomas Grove
MOSCOW | Wed Jan 30, 2013 2:25pm EST
(Reuters) - Russia scrapped a law enforcement agreement with the United States on Wednesday, further turning back the clock on a "reset" in relations since President Vladimir Putin's return to the Kremlin last year.
Reuters news story here

"Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov described the U.S. human rights bill, named after lawyer Sergei Magnitsky who died in detention in 2009, as "odious", but said Moscow wants constructive ties with the United States."
