| | In all seriousness, I said that "artist" is the most heroic profession... and far better than just my verdict, here's my explanation:
The sincere artist employs an intuitive, rapid logic to analyze the surrounding world, and then focuses on those bits that seem to be the most important. He or she then makes blatant and external that which is of personal importance: either problems or their solution. The artist then gains a deep personal satisfaction from being able to sift through all the muck and noise in life, and produce a totem -- a victory -- of mental clarity.
The artist does this for wholly and nobly selfish reasons, and any access that a possibly appreciative public might have to their work, is completely at the discretion of the artist.
An artist is a philosopher, an engineer, a teacher, even an entrepreneur. Or even a writer.
One such writer is the reason we're all here in this forum, paying our highest admiration for her ideas of inspiration and clarity, which have given strength and vision to so many people in all the other professions, all of which are truly admirable, too... but not necessarily in a fountainhead sort of way.
So I say "artist".
