I find this poll most odd.  First, there is no "No" so I had to vote "Other", and from what I can see I am the first and only one so far.  Given how many here have no problem with explicit sex jokes, I find it ironic that many are "sick" of a man and woman expressing their love for one another.  I am not one for public displays of affection but I am very tolerant of those who are.  Isn't that a form of "total passion for the total height"?

I think Kat's purr alerts are an excellent solution to this ranny gazoo!

One need not read past the purr alert if one doesn't want to be "drooled" on.

Those who enjoy Kat and Michaels joy can also get what they want.

Bravo!

Well said, Steven.

Kat, I found this solution to be delightfully clever, extremely benevolent, and an excellent display of humor on your part.  Thank you for that -- truly.  In being able to skip the purr, I noticed that you had some very good points to make.  Good on ya.  ;)

FYI, this poll was not my creation.  I finished coughing up the hairballs yesterday.  :)

I read them all, and find them civilized fun.  I'm the one drooling - and after I read several, it gets to be time for my wife and me to leave our respective computers and .... (that being, after all, why one drools.)

And if you tend to puke when you see people in love, remind me NOT to invite you over - we dislike the smell.

Thank you very much, from my heart, to everyone who wrote nice things on this thread.

This is not a poll. This is an outright insult from one who is so cowardly that he/she did not put his/her name to it on putting it up.

To be honest, I would not mind a poll on something like this. Part of the price of posting on a public forum is that not everyone will like you or what you do. So yes, poll if you must. I have no problem with that.

But to use words like "drool fest" when not one drool was mentioned in a single post that I can recollect, and "puking" is extremely biased. There is not even an option for "no."

In terms of poll qua poll, there is no interest by the author to arrive at any objective result - merely to insult Kat and myself loudly from behind anonymity.

SOLO is better than that. Or at least it used to be. I just saw Linz berate another poster for rudeness. Where is this case any different? May I not at least demand minimal politeness if my name and the pseudonym of the woman I love (who btw does not hide her name), who I met here on Solo, are to be involved in a poll?

I would like to publically request 2 things of the moderator:

1) Either remove the poll; or
2) Let it stand, but reveal to me who the author is and rephrase the question and title in a more respectful manner.

Michael

Michael,

I was going to send this in an e-mail to you and Kathy, but since my original post started this whole mess, I may as well finish in the same manner.

What began as a benevolent attempt to ask you to *shhh!* has gotten tangled into a mess, and I ultimately bear the responsibility for that.  Had I known this would be the result, I would have just kept silent and done my best to ignore the posts.  It is not typically my style to publicly chastise, and this is why -- there is rarely a positive outcome.  (Ok, the purr alerts are bloody brilliant, but that is an exception.)  It would have been more appropriate for me to ask you privately.  I allowed my impatience to get the better of me, and should not have done so.  Lesson learned.

Again, I wish the two of you ultimate happiness, and regret that my actions have caused so much upset.

Kind regards,
Jennifer

It is equally extraordinary that anyone would sanction this poll by answering "yes" to a poll that has no "no", and is clearly an "outright insult" from a coward.

It seems to me that this poll is wrong in any moral sense. What exactly is it accomplishing besides insult? Because of it's obvious flaws it can tell us (even the one who created it) nothing

There are respectable ways of making your opinion known. Change the poll or take it down.

Purr on.

Stupid thread. This is just a blatant attempt by somebody to stick needles into the two lovebirds.

There is another element that is, perhaps, driving this thing. Michael, have you and Kathy actually met yet? Are you guys living together or....what's the dealio? I don't know what your situation is and maybe if I knew I would understand better.

I have no idea who posted this but I do think it was probably meant in good humour rather than as a serious insult. If I'm wrong about that then I certainly endorse Michael's request to either reveal the name of the poster or remove the poll.

Anyway, in the context of thinking this posted in good humour, I voted "Other" because there is no option for "No". In all honesty I find it all rather sweet :-)

Sorry all, but I just saw that this went up, so I have just now gotten the chance to mention that *I* am the one who posted it. Matthew was right -- it was meant in good humor, but I suppose that's just one of the casualties of sappy saccharine slush.

More specifically, I posted this out of disappointment at Michael's distasteful response to Jennifer's tasteful and appropriate request (on another thread). I figure this should establish whether the constantly distracting, otherwise-pointless pillow talk that has pervaded so many threads is actually found enjoyable by most SOLOists, or not. If not, then I should hope the two would be encouraged to keep it private (admittedly tough without actually having shared a pillow).

So, I thought this poll might result in some clarification. If it turns out that most people are actually turned on by this sort of stuff -- and that the apocalypse is indeed impending -- then it would seem that MSK and Katdaddy's purrings won't be proceeding in bad taste.

Alec

Matthew and Tim,

I want to laugh to tell you the truth. God knows I wish this were a prank or spoof. But I don't think it is.

If you had been following this noble crusade to teach Kat and I a lesson we'll never forget this time that has been going on over here for the last few days, you would see that some people are actually up in arms - for real.

They say (politely at first), "Ahem... er... don't purr anymore in the wrong place, OK?"

Then they gather courage. "You hear? No purring dammit! I'm telling you!"

Hmmmmm... I think this must be serious stuff, so I give it some thought.

Then I tell them, "No, I'm gonna keep on purring."

Boy does that get them pissed! And pissed for real - not play. You should see the various screeds of mature adult wisdom to enlighten us written in dead earnest. Paragraphs and paragraphs and paragraphs. Accusingly pointing and shaking their finger at our nose and everything.

LOLOLOLOL... (I can't help but laugh...)

So Kat came up with a "purr alert."

Well now that was the final straw. The gloves are really off now. No more mealy-mouthing around. They said no purring and by God and all that is sacred there will be no more fucking purring!

We'll show them what a "puking" poll feels like! That should do the trick! That will show them an thing or two! Mess with us and look at what you get!

So now stop that idiotic, fucking, stupid, goddam childish purring!

Ahem... so here I will add another request. If this poll was a spoof, then will the author please stand up and take a bow?

Heeeeeeeeere doggie, doggie... Come out, come out, wherever you are...

I have a little present for you...

Michael

(purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...)

Edit - My post crossed with yours, Alec. Now I know who the dastardly deed doer is. If you were "really" doing a poll - or humor (why does the word "benevolent" escape me?), it would not have been that way and you know it. So I will be frank with you. Unless there is a request for moderation from the administrator, I and Kat will keep on purring, regardless of any of your "poll" results or opinions or pranks or anything else you might dream up.

You, sir, have insulted the woman I love. I take that very personally. I'm being extremely serious right now.

As for Jennifer, thank you for your posture both on and off line.

Kat proved herself to be a true Lady with her response to all this. Michael, you confirmed what I had known - the best of gentlemen.

I couldnt believe coming across the poll this morning. As if the issue hadn't gone on like a bad song (with me singing a screechy note or two) for Waaaay too long!

Perhaps this poll will signal THE END of the topic?

No, Tim's a good lad. (To avoid cross-cultural confusion, that means he's someone worthy or knowing and spending time with - uurg, how touchy-feely do I sound?)

If you think he's an arsehole, you've almost certainly misread his intentions and his actions.

Hahah, I have at various points thought this poll was posted by Jennifer, Alec, and now Tim. And I still don't understand what "puking in the kitchen" is supposed to mean.

It's great that MSK and Kat have met and fallen in love on SOLO. But does anyone recall the episode of Seinfeld where Jerry and his girlfriend are constantly making baby-talk and saying "You're a schmoopie!" "No, you're a schmoopie!" to each other? Sometimes their back-and-forth (which seems to make its way into every thread) feels a little like that, and despite the backlash that will assuredly ensue, I'll state for the record that I enjoyed a little chuckle when I saw this poll.

(Edit: Heh, I just saw Joe's post about the same Seinfeld on the other thread.)

I personally think that if you decide to play kissing games in public, or inject romantic asides into every other post, you run the risk of being mocked. You can, as MSK and Kat have, say MOCKERY BE DAMNED, and just keep right on playing the game. That's fine. But I don't think you have solid grounds to round on the people mocking you and get all huffy just because someone's decided to make light of your habits.

MSK, could we please get the next indignant post in Southern drawl? I find it so endearing...
