Since us Marylanders didn't get an option closer to home, I say NZ! Then maybe I can get an explanation first hand on what a pomo-wanker is. :)

Besides, doesn't New Zealand have kiwi's?

Thanks for voting, all.

If you opted for New Zealand or St. Lucia (which looks gorgeous, too), please help with the research.  Go online and start combing through the Auckland ads, for example.  I spent quite a bit of time, but couldn't find what I wanted, perhaps you will be the lucky one to find an Objectivist paradise!

Can't wait to see everyone next May, I'm so excited.

Regards,

Julia

Come to Montana, folks, and free your soul. Or at least check out where the Unabomber holed up in a cabin and sent his COD packages.

I must admit it: I voted for Newport Beach, California, because I liked The O.C. on television (really plain, but better than the usual daily soap ;) ).

Uhm...don't you all do that conference in a warmer month?  May, or something?  Perhaps you should try something a little more climate-happy than Florida.  Wouldn't it be a laugh to have it at the Seventh Day Adventist retreat center in Hope, British Columbia?  Paint the town...uhm...capitalist canaray yellow?  Or just eat bengal tiger ice cream (licorice and orange, so darn tasty) while debating the benefits and negatives of great individual freedom and poor economic liberty within Canadian borders?  Maybe the fresh air will do everyone some good, no?

Halina, do you have a particular suite/resort in mind?

I don't think the place matters much. I just want something that is clean with modern appliances, and of course it can't be too cold (I hate the cold).

What matters the most to me is that we do meet, not where we meet. It will be a blast, I'm sure.

Hope, BC....well, there's a Ritz Carlton down by the general store...actually, I think that aside from a motel 6, motel 8, motel 3, and the best western, we're looking at nada within town.  The retreat center I mentioned has modern appliances, central heating, and working restrooms, but I wouldn't say they're glold-plated and fluffled.  (and the place is entirely vegetarian, which resulted in much outcry for herring, lox, and assorted canned fish while I was there).  There's no huge city right there, but there are hotsprings right down the street and some great hiking grounds.  There are some great places in Vancouver and Victoria though that are urban while also just lovely (and can be cheap enough too).  Any other thoughts?

I'll second the recommendation of British Columbia. Back when I was a graduate student in Eugene, I used to travel up the coast regularly, just to enjoy civilization. And when I was going to TOC summer conferences, the one in Vancouver was the best ever. And Wreck Beach...

All right, the current pressing question is:

Will we have an RoR conference?

If so, will it still be held in the time frame and location this poll suggests?

It would be great to resolve this question, because I need to start planning for it now! What I really, really, would not like to see happen are two conferences in different places only a month or two apart. I really look forward to seeing everyone and I hate the idea of the group being split by having to choose one or the other.

I'm in the minority, but I'm swayed by all of those great commercials for Vegas ...
