Question of semantics: How are you defining 'ecology' ?

Dictionary.com has multiple definitions of the word.

1. The science of the relationships between organisms and their environments. Also called bionomics.
2. The branch of sociology that is concerned with studying the relationships between human groups and their physical and social environments. Also called human ecology.
3. The study of the detrimental effects of modern civilization on the environment, with a view toward prevention or reversal through conservation. Also called human ecology.

I think Greens have long been able to ride on the purported innocence and "scientific" nature of the first definition and package it with the second and third. (Even in their very formulations, the second and third definitions are pseudoscientific; the second views man as comparable to an animal whom biological studies alone, without filosofical investigation, can explicate. The third seeks to shackle man's productive ability and prevent him from actualizing life-affirming tasks). I have no problem with studying the behaviors of birds or insects, or their characteristics in the wilderness, but naturalists have done this long before the term "ecology" was created. "Ecology" is a deliberate Green construct meant to subordinate the good in science (i.e. Darwinian theory, geology, meteorology, and climatografy) to the tribal mysticism of "sustainable development" and parasitize on the prestige of the former in the service of the latter.
