I think the Objectivist view of sexual motivation needs work. There is no way I will condemn a person for feeling sexually attracted to certain kinds of people over other kinds of people based purely on appearances. Even when evaluating character traits, I contend that trade studies must take place in the mind of the valuer to evaluate the overall sexual value of the evaluated target in body and spirit.

I see none of this as running counter to the famous quote: "Tell me what a man finds sexually attractive and I will tell you his entire philosophy of life." There is another famous quote: "The man to whom I dedicated Atlas Shrugged would never want anything less than me! I don't care if I'm ninety years old and in a wheelchair!" I call bullshit on that second quote.

Luke, I gave this some thought over the past couple of days, and I think that you ought to do it.  You have the skills and the insight.  If nothinng else, at least start a new, separate topic, perhaps under Romance (logically enough).

Just tangentially, you know the works of Dierdre McCloskey. In one of her essays, she made an interesting observation.  It is so common that we do not perceive it.  How often have you seen in a movie or TV show where a woman goes to leave a room and a man grabs her by the arm to stop her?

Michael, I started a new thread here per your suggestion.

How often have you seen in a movie or TV show where a woman goes to leave a room and a man grabs her by the arm to stop her?

I am not sure. You are correct. I have not consciously sat and counted. I also know not the works of Deirdre McCloskey.
