Never was much a fan of Coulter, tho admit read little of her, but this review intrigues me to the point of adding this of her books on my want list... have Sokal's wonderful tome, and loved its well-crafted structure...

I would NOT recommend Godless in which Coulter criticizes evolution. It is by far her worst book, the only one I would review negatively. All the other titles are excellent, well written from scholarly to witty depending upon the subject she criticizes. Very well researched and footnoted lawyerly. Treason (scholarly) and How to Talk with a Liberal (hilarious) are her best, although I don't think they will appeal in full to pacifists.

The arguments she puts forth in Godless against evolution are so puerile it is impossible to believe that she herself believes them. Olofsson may be right, but if so I think she was too subtle.

Coulter, like most pundits on both sides, is so hyporcritical that she makes me puke. I have no interest in mining the trash for the occsional gem.

And please, lets not try to make it sound like she accepts evolution.

Worried that she might trick some of the readers of RoR? 'd be much more worried that Sacha Baron Cohen will undermine Objectivism.

Ted,

My primary concern is when I come to the RoR home page and seeing lots of "positive" quotes from people I find repugnant. Bad enough that I have to read stupid things I've said in the past.

I can't stand the liberals and their desire to tax me out of existence and there BS ideas full of evil masquerading as compassion.

BUT

I really can't stand the "conservatives," especially those of the last 15 years or so who so carefully organized their pilfering of American's wallets. They enriched themselves at every turn, smeared anyone who dared question them as Anti-American, and a hundred other sins. Conservatives my ass! They are worse than the liberals because they pretend to be conservative, when they really only mean socially conservative, and even then they don't follow their own touted morality. Hypocrite thieves to the core.

I will not be fooled by either side.

The point of posting a quote is to post that quote, which one assumes stands on its own. If quoting someone amounts to sanctioning his entire life and opus, then with whom are we left? And of course I hope you see the irony in your quoting Coulter, which was of course an unwitting sanction of her. If you think about this you may need to pause here and go bathe. I'll wait.

I assume you are back? No one stops you or anyone else from contributing content. Although I can understand how my own sarcastically abusive response to you under the quote you posted might intimidate you from responding in the future, for which I apologize.

My posting of Coulter's quote was to emphasize her negative qualities. You are free to post as many of her quotes as you like. I, in my own sarcastic way, will post others if the fancy strikes me.

I find many objectivists are over-enamored with the right, and even some the left.

You are voluminous in your content adding. Good for you I say! Sometimes the front page of RoR takes on the appearance of a Republican love club though, and it puts me off my food. I find my trips to RoR decrease when I see this sort of thing. Occasionally it bothers me enough so that I make my own humorous posts.

If that imtimidates you from responding Ted........yeah, right, that's not going to happen!

As for intimidating me from responding, also unlikely.

Buchanan??????? *BARF*

Exactly. Who's afraid of Ann Coulter? Quotes stand on their own, one hopes. My two previous quotes of her:

"Democrats treat judicial nominations like war -- while Republicans keep being gracious, hoping Democrats will learn by example."

"If you think Allah is great, you should try these dinner rolls."

do not quite make this the Ann Coulter fan club, no matter what Michael Marotta may feel.

Almost any dog, at one time or another, can stand on two legs.

It is not unreasonable to find that someone unreasonable, can - at one time or another - make some reasonable remarks.

Ethan,

Given what is happening to our country at the hands of Obama/Pelosi/Reid/Frank/Dodd it is easy to find reason to post quotes that highlight an Objectivist principle even if it is out of the mouth of a conservative. And the worse the state of thinks, the more common ground I find with anyone opposing this rush to economic death - but that doesn't mean that I endorse their other positions. It doesn't mean I've sanctioned their religious nonsense. And I am opposed to many of the interventionist actions of Bush which made me an ally of Buchanan - even if only in that narrow area. Ted and I have both posted quotes from Paglia - certainly a flaming liberal in some areas.

One of the few silver linings visible from here is the growing irrelevance of the old party partisanship. We are moving into the time of the independent voter because of the hatred for the policies of both the left and the right.

Having said that, as I pointed out in another thread, I don't buy the quoted position that Coulter was writing satire, and I would never have posted this quote for that reason.

Hi Steve,

If we are extremey lucky we are moving into the time of the independant voter. Most still by that one of the two parties is better than the other, or at least the lesser of evils. Nihilism is well entrenched in our youth as they have seen the hypocrisy and have never been taught anything better. Things are bad. The worse the Democrats make it, the sooner peple may wake up. The conservatives are not the one with the answer.

Ethan

Ethan,

If you can find some current zingers by Peikoff, Brook, or Kelley et al, by all means, post them.

Hi Teresa,

Unfortunately I find myself with too many battle scars from my days in the trenches to be terribly motivated to look into quotes by supposed Objectivist leaders.  I think the best "zingers" will come from everday people who post here.

Even if I can find some of those, what will it accomplish? Ted will claim that the speaker is just a sheepfucker who likes to bugger boys or some such.

Life is short and I'm not going to waste mine arguing with infantile people like him, and if you are posting here, you are up to your ass in him. And he likes it that way (Ha Ha Gay joke! Pee pee poo poo.)

I like RoR because I like the idea of activism. making a difference. I lik Joe and what he has to say. Ted is just another potty-mouthed slogan hurler supporting a political group that would like nothing better than to drag him to a reeducation camp to cure him.

Meaningful discourse is lost in the flood of crap he spews out here.

I understand your position, Ethan. I also understand Ted's.

Ted makes a point when he says that none of these guys were picked up off the street while strolling downtown.

I know the system isn't perfect, but what's the alternative? Wait until they're caught in the act? Faster, sloppier investigations? Chuck the whole thing, or what?
