The link you want is here:
http://rpc.senate.gov/public/_files/alternativestothedebtlimitincreasev20.pdf

The link provided has a typo in the last character: "%22" (hard-coded quote) should be "f".

The page is for the Republican Policy Committee. The quote from then-Senator Obama is cited to the Congressional Record for the Senate S. 2237-8 March 16, 2006.

And yet, incredibly, there are enough mindless drones to still make up for a 47% approval rating for him.

"...there are enough mindless drones to still make up for a 47% approval rating for [Obama]."

And there is the real underlying problem we have in our country. Decade upon decade of the dumbing down of the population.
--------------

Take a look at Thomas Jefferson's early years were like:
  • At 5, he began studying under his cousins' tutor.
  • At 9, he started school and studied Latin, Greek and French.
  • At 14, he studied classical literature, additional languages and the violin. In the end, he spoke 5 languages and could read 2 others.
  • At 16, he entered the College of William and Mary and studied mathematics, metaphysics, and philosophy. Including the writings of the British Empiricists, John Locke, Francis Bacon, and Isaac Newton. He also studied history, science and the classics.
  • At 19, he studied Law for 5 years.
Clearly Jefferson was an exceptional person, but there have been drastic changes in what is taught and how it taught. I know that when I took Latin my mother was disappointed in the lack of rigor or practice or drilling that was involved. She was able to correct my errors despite not having used her Latin for about 3 decades. On the psychological side there have been big differences as well - the sense of expectations that a young person encounters today is radically different from the kind and intensity of expectations placed on those of earlier generations - and that is a BIG deal.
