That is how taxes should be argued!

In that same thread, Fred made a stunning argument against progressive income taxes.

Steve:

What has always been stunning about this issue of forced redistribution is the telling lack of meaningful argument in support of, and yet it has won the day.

There is no argument for; I've been waiting for over twenty years for someone to come up with even a flimsy example of a 'quintile' as an actual economic actor anywhere, in any fashion, in any of our economies; it is never going to happen because there is no such, and to even try to claim there was would just be silly. It's not possible to keep a straight face when making such a claim, and yet.... arguments based on the characteristics of 'quintiles' rule the redistributive argument. The entire basis for their redistributive logic does not exist anywhere in reality.

It is all, at its foundation, simple tribal wanna have it, implemented by the ethics of tribal force, brute numbers, period.

There is nothing stopping those who find this principle worthy from personally carrying it out; in an ethical tribe, that would be the real 'Buffet Rule.'

As for the unethical laws, there is no obligation to ethically obey them, only succumbing to brute force.

There is no ethical argument for.

regards,
Fred

Yes, that's it. Each new generation since the time of my grandparents (before that I could only theorize) has shown less of a sense of being an independent person responsible for their own lives. What has filled this growing vacuum of independence has been peer pressure, group think, and emotionalism.

Logical arguments can get in the way of tribal bonding. Reasoned positions don't matter to those who are attuned to the group and weighing the intensity of emotional outbursts to decide where they will stand.
