I went to the URL listed under the title and found that it was the Washington Post editorial where they officially endorsed Obama for president back in Oct. 2008.  I suspect that this was just Peter putting up their words to show them how foolish they were in their choice (although McCain might have been as horrible in his own way - right now we might be in the beginning of WWIII with troops headed for Crimea).

BO is slick and glib, so he fools a lot of people.

Obama is no slicker than the usual tweaker. Obama is simply tricking people who want to be tricked. People who want to believe what Obama is saying. Those people who want to believe do all the heavy lifting; all Obama has to do is reassure them every once in a while. 

 

Obama is simply tapping into people's desire to believe in something great or spectacular.

To be clearer, slick has different meanings, for example:

- clever in usually a dishonest or deceptive way

- skillful and clever (link).

I meant the first one in post 2.
