I just watched this interview, and was all set to post it, but Jim beat me to the punch.

It is fascinating, and surprising. Zader endorses Buddhism as very compatible with Objectivism. I don't know anything about Buddhism, so I can't agree, disagree, or even comment!

I wrote an article, "Objectivism and Zen" in this forum in 2003 on this subject. I am a personal friend of Joshua and we have some minor differences ... I am attracted specifically to the Zen discipline rather than to the broader classification of Buddhism.

btw, I have recently been trying to find the whereabouts of David Stewart and have found a book, "Fundamentals of Philosophy" by David Stewart and H. Gene Blocker, 1996. I believe he is the same David Stewart although in his speech he said he would become a doctor after leaving Objectivism. I will send the complete speech to anyone interested if they send me an e-mail.

I appreciate this guys focus. He hardly mentions politics as a social glue, instead focusing on individuality and ethics; certainly a superior angle for playing matchmaker.

I agreed with his thoughts on Buddhism, I've even used "Buddhism at its best" many times to qualify my endorsement. Although, this topic seemed to come from nowhere.

Sam Harris has a similar argument in the last, controversial chapter of The End of Faith. I remember him saying while we're on the shoulders of giants when it comes to physical science, we're on the shoulders of dwarfs when it comes to consciousness. He argues the sages of the east are far better off, though we don't have to take their metaphysical conclusions seriously.
