Bruch: Violin Concerto No. 1
There's been way too much headbanging caterwauling promoted here lately (btw, did y'all realise that you can post CD recommendations under the "headbanging caterwauling" category now?) so I thought I'd recommend the sublime music-making I've just been listening to: Anne-Sophie Mutter playing the Bruch Violin Concerto with the Berlin Philharmonic. Ms Mutter doesn't merely *play* the violin - she makes it *sing*. Her smoky, sultry tone, cello-like in its depth, is unique. Her cheeky sliding between notes is a voluptuous & wholly delightful impertinence. Her fierce precision brings to one's attention notes that other violinists fail to articulate. The combination of Mutter, Karajan & Bruch is incomparable. Oh, & there's the Mendelssohn as well.
