One of my greatest treasures is the photo I took off the TV when the first foot stepped on the moon..... never did a TV picturing before, but it came out wonderfully, as if was there my self......

No, I don't think we can.

But thanks for the suggestion.

Oh, excellent.  I'm sure that will come as welcome news to those who sent me an e-mail of thanks for making the request.

Sorry, folks.  You'll have to keep those galoshes on.

I'm not being catty, Michael.  In fact, I went out of my way to be kind about it, obviously to no avail.

Trust me -- you do not want to see my claws.

Jennifer,

Just to be clear about whatever your problem is, I get the sense you don't like being disagreed with. For some reason you think that "being nice" will make me agree with you and change what I do. Well I don't think so and I won't.

I don't like implied insults, especially when they involve the woman I fell in love with.

So we can just not like each other, if that is where this is going.

And if you don't like my posts, or Kat's, then don't read them. They rarely even say anything about you anyway, except maybe to compliment you on an article or something.

You and Marcus have a nice day.

Michael

Michael, it has nothing to do with being disagreed with.  People disagree with me all the time, and I can assure you it is not a source of strife.

Nor were any of my posts implied insults.  I was specifically attentive to this in the wording of the first so it would not come across that way, as that was absolutely not the intention.  As I mentioned there, that you have found joy with one another is fantastic.  It just gets tiresome to read it on almost every thread here.

No, I don't have to read the posts, but they are somewhat difficult to avoid, given that they appear in multitudes.

I made a kind, seemingly simple request, and you essentially told me to shove it.  So my reaction should not come as a surprise.

And what does Marcus have to do with this?  Or me being mentioned in your posts?  I referred to neither.

Jennifer,
It just gets tiresome to read it on almost every thread here.
I don't want to take the time to link to my past 50 posts or so, but I assure you that you are very mistaken in that comment. I don't post on almost every thread here. (I do post on a lot though.)

Even so, I mention Kat very little. She mentions me more. When we do mention each other, our manner is playful and loving. I'm sorry that bothers you. Some around here enjoy it greatly and have told me so.

You made a request. I told you no and thanked you for a suggestion. (And I'm still telling you no.)

Where on earth did I tell you to shove it? Did you hear sarcasm or what? I don't play put-down games or one-upmanship. If you have been attentive in reading my posts, you can see that.

What you implied in your nicely worded first post is insulting. You can say it isn't, but it sure is. Basically, though, it makes very little difference to either Kat or myself. We are just a little saddened something like this came from you of all people...

... but then there is us! So no problem!

Let me be the one to say it now:

PURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!

(btw - There was no disrespect aimed at Marcus. I meant what I said. You both have a nice day. I think you two are good people, despite all this.)

Michael

Can we get back to talking about the F.....ING moon?
David, like you the Apollo program was a highlight in my childhood. Living in England we had a degree of separation from and also envy of the achievement. What impresses me now was the sheer  force of will required to create the technologies required.  Ever since I have felt moved by the project and angry when I hear the common complaint that " we could have built six million hospitals and saved the gay whale,rainforest...with the money spent".

It looks as if the future of space is private and that is a great thing. I have been disappointed in the slow progress of exploration since Apollo  but of course the need for manned flights is a contentious issue.   In the 1970s many of us assumed there would be permanent moonbases  by the 1980s but the question was why?
Eventually men will go back to the moon but it may be at their own expense and I predict they will be vilified by the many for it. I will be in the garden with my telescope, dreaming I was with them just like the boy of 7 all those years ago.

Well, if the space program had gone the way vonBraun wanted, there would have first been the space station, from which went trips to the moon or whatever - thus assuring continued space usage.... of course, he was over-ruled for political reason, and the results as it did happen... so true, had expected by now moonbase works, and a viable habitat up there, from which I would be living,   a permanent space artist in residence - alas, never happened, and am still stuck here, getting older and less likely to see such come to pass.... still, a dream, as with many others who wished the same..... am looking forward to seeing how well the private enterprise will go on this, how the governmental meddling will affect it [hopefully little meddling, but y'all knows govt, always wantin to meddle]...

Robert,

They've found your home! A comfortable -50 degrees C, the sun never sets, just skips around the horizon from peak to peak. I'd live there too if I had the chance.

Thanks, Dean. That doesn't happen very often, for sure -- though when my wife, Kelly, speaks, I tune absolutely everything else out. ;-)

David, I've always been curious to learn how foreigners felt about the moon landing. In this country, we've mostly just seen footage of people glued to store TV sets in Europe. ... I must say that the private ventures into space have me VERY excited again about space travel and the innovations being made by Dick Rutan and the guys. Even NASA recently complimented the private guys on the sheer amount of the inventions they've made to cut costs and ensure success. I'm hoping to be one of the first passengers on a suborbital flight to Japan in the next decade!

On the subject of the moon and Neil Armstong I offer this little urban myth...

"As Neil Armstong climbed into the lunar module after walking on the moon, he muttered another sentence, "Good luck Mr Gorski." After his return to earth, curious reporters inquired what this sentence meant, but Armstrong refused to reveal it. Some thought it might have been addressed to a Soviet cosmonaut, but there was no one of that name. After frustrating efforts of the journalists, the entire affair was forgotten.

Last year, [1997] at a party in Florida, someone brought it up again. This time, Neil Armstrong felt free to disclose the meaning of the sentence, since, in the meantime, Mr Gorski and his wife had died. When Neil was a boy, the Gorskis were their next-door neighbours. One day, Neil was playing ball in his backyard with his friends. At one point, the ball landed in the Gorski's garden under the open window of their bedroom and Neil was appointed to retrieve it. The Gorskis were in the middle of a heated argument. As Neil was picking up the ball, he heard Mrs Gorski screaming: "Oral sex? You want oral sex? You'll get oral sex the day the kid next door walks on the moon."

:-) :-) :-)

As an aside this website is useful for those of you who like civilian aerospace technology including at least one private space vehicle. In fact this jump site will take you to technology websites for a number of industries.

Robert W:

'"Oral sex? You want oral sex? You'll get oral sex the day the kid next door walks on the moon."'

Priceless.

Reverse synchronicity?

Two things: you've got the child Neil in the backyard playing the most innocent of games, and the astronaut Armstrong completing the most romantic and technically challenging of adventures. There's a wonder and beauty in that picture that is indescribable.

That's what I meant when I said:

"...a beloved human standing on an inhospitable rock in a glorious white spacesuit, 250, 000 miles from his home, looking back to see, hanging in the starfield, the blue and green ball that gave birth to him..."

We never escape from the child. Nor should we try.

I look at unread messages, as usual. I look at the article discussion for "We Went to the Moon," nothing special. I see "oral sex"...

The moon...

Oral sex...

I am in awe at you all's ability to guide any topic toward sex. Truly amazes me.

Don't be amazed. There are some lascivious deviants here. In the early days of SOLO, I tried to remain aloof and keep myself innocent and untainted, but, eventually, they wore me down and I had no choice but to capitulate to rational ribaldism.

I feel much better now :-)

You should add a pic. I'm keen to see what an iridescent wombat looks like ;-)

Ross,

Er...

That trick there with your picture, cool...

Kinda reminds me of that Michael Jackson video.

Don't worry about it, Sarah. They want sex around here. That's all they want. Sex, sex and more sex.

We tried to purr at the moon and look where that went!

So it's just sex... just deal with it... that's the program...

Yes, the more I think about it, the more I like it. Rational Ribaldism, that is. I can feel an article coming on with that very title :-)

Michael:

My pic is an animated gif. You can thank Jeff Landauer for that little bit of morphing. He got it just right. You see, there's a little story behind that proud pooch...
