Good point Adam..

But here's a more important one -try "googling" solohq.com!

chocolat
5 results including reviews and discussion

theocracy
21 results including fantastic articles by the likes of Tibor Machan

"Roe v. Wade"
 6 results
etc, etc

Now, for me the interesting difference is that whereas the Objectivist Center is either "dead" content wise or stone-age in search-engine friendliness, and ARI at least offers original content, solohq.com offers not just "official" content, but also discussion. It is the only "open" forum.

So for me there is no competition :-)

Well spotted, David! I agree with Adam in preferring the ARI's fearless, unambiguous op-eds to the non-output of TOC - but one gets fearless, unambiguous op-eds (*and* open, uncensored discussion of them) *here* without the well-canvassed negatives that diminish the ARI.

David and Linz, you are of course right about SOLO - but then, anyone who reads this article already IS on SOLO, and already knows that SOLO is not, and does not pretend to be, in the business of providing its readers with a focused Objectivist perspective. This is a very high volume site, and many contributions to SOLO have only the tiniest overlap with Objectivism. TOC is an all-pro site, and ought to be meeting a higher standard of philosophical integration, and isn't.

Mr. Reed,

Perhaps you did not pay note to one rather inconspicuous (irony intended), but very significant detail with respect to the issue at hand.

I quote, from TOC's search page, http://www.objectivistcenter.org/search.asp

"Note: This is not a text search; it only searches the title and descriptions of articles."

Whether this is an honest mistake or a deliberate one, I will not presume to judge. I do not, however, think that that circumstance can in any manner be used to discredit TOC's scholarship in areas both mentioned and omitted (i.e. the fundamentals of Objectivism and its status as an open system) in this article.

Actually Adam mentions that he was using Google.com to search, which does search through text.

The thing about the Google "Search Site" feature is that some pages seem to block it. I have sometimes used it to find a page on a site that I know to contain a certain word, for example "Smith," and come up empty-handed.
