I am grateful to college professors and other teachers who invested the effort in understanding complex topics well enough to explain them to me.

I enjoyed reading that article - we do live in a fantastic time because of technology, and it felt nice to read an upbeat article about what's good.

Tibor, I could do without a lot of the commentary in the tennis matches, but I wouldn't want to lose the screams of the women players, as it makes it all the more exciting to me. I love when they do that.

I too greatly appreciate the ways science and technology have made things more convenient, manageable, and comfortable (and of course, made life less painful, healthier, and longer).

I second what Michael said; teachers and professors have always been my heroes.

Many are gone, but I not so long ago looked up my 4th grade teacher-- our class was her first year of teaching, shes long retired -- and took her to lunch. (I highly recommend this, if/when it is still possible to do--not my 4th grade teacher, but any of yours...) She had b/w rolls of every class she ever taught, with the names on the back of the photos. To say 'thank-you' after all these years, because she was one of many who 'well offered' the education that was my responsibility to take. She made school a pleasure.

Hell, I married a teacher. Not quite what it sounds like we are the same age...she's president of the local school board. Her last year after twelve years of service. I will finally have her all to myself...more or less.

regards,
Fred

One great benefit of science and technology is that a variety of individual preference can be satisfied--e.g., if you like the screaming, leave on the audio, if not mute it!
