Ditto... or, ummm, Ditko!... but, as much as I understood and appreciate the Objectivist essay, I have to say that on the basis of his long recommendations among us... and given my own personal possession of a Mr. A comic... I have to say that I read the first Spidermans (belonging to others) and I fail to see that A versus Non-A absolutism...

I mean, maybe that is the draw of the series (and it continued, even as a parody of itself) that Peter Parker was supposed to think through his problem, but as Ditko left the writing, that never happened and 40 years later, Peter Parker is still dealing with the same unresolved issues...

Watching The Watchmen again (twice in fact), I did understand Rorschach more clearly from the Objectivist point of view. And, I did not see him as a parody of the Question Mark (a character I do not know), except in the sense of another failed parody: The Avengers.

Anyway... nice statement by Steve Ditko.

Michael, are you saying that you don't see it BECAUSE you don't know the character of THE QUESTION, or that you don't think the parody is there? Just curious, because Alan Moore has stated explicitly that Rorschac is indeed meant to be a parody of the Question/Objectivism. Thanks.

Joe, the parody failed because I did not know the original. I had to take Rorschach on his own terms. The problem is "intentionalism"? Right? You intend one thing and I perceive another.

Since I do not know The Question, the parody failed.

Returning from Savannah this afternoon, I passed a billboard that said, simply, "Who is John Galt?". It is located on I-95 South, about 1,5 miles North of the Florida-Georgia border. I just caught it out of the corner of my eye as I passed it, but couldn't resist getting off at the next exit and backtracking a few miles, so that I could stop and take a picture... which I'd gladly post here If I could find the instructions Ted gave me once for posting pictures. Anyone?

Out of curiousness, I checked with the billboard company, and found out the owner is a fan of Rand, and put this sign up as his way of protesting what's going on in Washington. The sales rep I spoke with said they've been getting many compliments on the sign from other fans of Rand and Objectivism, and have enjoyed hearing from people.

First you have to upload the picture to some host like Photobucket.com, where you can set up a free account. Once the photo is hosted on the web, click on the image (usually right click, then something like "view image" - netscape or "open image in new window" - safari or copy the "direct link" address in Photobucket) so that the url in the navigation bar shows the address of just that image, usually ending in the suffix .jpg .

Copy that address, (for example http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/pp283/rad4hap/godkills.jpg) then post it here with the following code, using < instead of { and > instead of } !!!

which produces:

In other words, use the code image source equals quote endquote with the address of the image inserted within the quotes.

If you use MS Internet Explorer, then this won't work.

If you have a Facebook page, you can upload the photo there, too. Anywhere that accepts image uploads will work. After the picture is uploaded, and if you're using Explorer, open the image in your browser from the site you've uploaded it to, then right click on the image, select "copy" and left click, then paste the image in the thread of your choice by right clicking again, select "paste," and left clicking into the thread.

Steve - Thanks for posting it. Someday I'll learn to be more adept at such things.

Teresa - Yes. The sign is located on the side of I-95 South, about 2 miles before the Florida-Georgia border. As mentioned earlier, they've enjoyed getting phone calls about the sign. The staff of Vista Outdoor Advertising are sympathetic to Objectivist ideals, but the owner was described to me as an big fan of Rand and Objectivism. Their number, if anyone wants to pay them a compliment, is 912-882-6262. They are located in St. Marys, Georgia a quaint town on the St. Marys River, which forms part of the border between Georgia and Florida.
