| | Mike, from what I've read, yes: the skin continues to cover the head, even when fully erect. This is necessary to protect the glans at night, and during other situations where it's not being used.
And as for masterbation, I've read that you don't even touch the head with your hand. Instead, you slide the foreskin forward and back, covering and uncovering the glans. So now instead of friction, you've got contact, no contact, pressure, no pressure, and Much less damaging friction.
I've read, the glans is naturally a very smooth, sensitive, fragile organ. Its texture and durability should be much more like the inside of your mouth or the underside of your eyelid.

For sexual intercourse, the extra skin is beneficial to both the man and the woman. As Ashley was saying, the shaft of the penis slides in and out through the foreskin, instead of through the vagina. This means much less wear and tear on her body, and much less wear and tear on your glans (... ahem, but your glans are currently armored so you don't really get the wear and tear). This means that your lady will feel less pain, and enjoy the whole experience more. Maybe she'll even want to do it more frequently : ).
=====
And so far, its been pretty fun learning about and attempting to grow back more skin to provide some of the functionality I've lost. Even before my skin grows to cover my glans, I'll be protecting my glans... I'm looking forward to much better [censored!!! : )].
