OH, JESUS!! I really wish you hadn't done that!!! It pushes further into popular consciousness the impression that Rand followers are religious cultists or mindless goose-stepping Nazi robots...which is exactly what the enemies of Objectivism have been trying to spread!

(Fortunately, it doesn't seem to be up there at present...so please don't do it again...else I suggest other people un-wiki it).

I hope you will rethink your reasoning behind this, Ali.

Yes, and if that happens, it's only a matter of time until the IRS yanks ARI's tax-exempt status (which is being denied to religious cults), and then they will become non-viable as an organization, and...hey, wait a minute!

Just kidding. The last thing I want to see happen is for the IRS to come down on ARI, even if I don't totally approve of the way they approach Objectivism. Phil is right, Ali, please don't do that!

Here is what he wrote:

Search results for 'Randroid':

Randroid (noun) : A dismissive term for someone who is a fan or admirer of Ayn Rand. It combines “Rand” with “android”, to denote a robot-like or cult-like behavior on the part of such people.
“I told her to think it through for herself, but she’s being a real Randroid about it instead”.

Why did you think this was a good idea, Ali?

I think he wanted to delete his post, but didn't know that you had to preview before a change in the text area would take effect. Hence the long list of edits, but no changes to the text. I learned that the hard way too, I've lost some very fancy looking posts and detailed responses.

Does anyone have a problem with me making the forum post text editor like the editor used for the RoR mails?

I like my gimpy editor. Can we retain the option of using it?

Ok. Too bad the Gimpy editor doesn't work in mozilla, and too bad IE doesn't work on Linux. I guess a web developer should have a windows machine around to test his site with IE. What a waste of bedroom space! Don't say duel boot-- I have no time to wait for reboots.

Dean,
You don't need to dual boot if you install some kind of VM. Then you can switch OS's by a simple tab keystroke. (And you don't necessarily have to wipe your system to install one, if I recall correctly, if you are already using Linux.

Regrettably, though the new email has many welcome features, it's considerably slower than the old system. Tolerable when making an email, annoying if it were required for all posts.

The editor doesn't work well with Safari...if I post while I'm at work on a PC with Explorer, I have tons of editing options, but at home on my mac it's kind of just type and hit post. It just makes it awkward when I am quoting someone because I have no way to designate it. Well besides "these".

I'm unable to write a post here in Opera. The message window does appear, but I can't get the cursor there. Therefore I have to switch to IE, which I hate. I don't have this problem in other forums...

I am in favor of Dean's change.  Anything to make this site less IE dependent (which it is now).  It would be nice to be able to use Opera but even if I have to use Firefox instead that is far better then having to open up IE.  Making this site more Mozilla friendly would be a welcome change.

Splendens,
Try hitting the No Font button. The symptom you describe happens to me all the time, but goes away when I do that.

I post using Firefox on the PC and using Safari on the Mac. I've never seen a way to do the following on either machine: "font changing, font-sizing, bold, italics, underline, links, block quotes, breaks, and HTML and Word pasting with formatting".

I would very much like to be able to use bold or underline or italics instead of this crap that I do in many of my posts: BOLD, ***underline****, --italics-- or dot, dot, dot for breaks and emphasis

....like...this..that...i..also...do...a...lot

...which makes me look retarded.

I tried that, but without success (in IE it works). And using the quote option doesn't even work well in IE, I get the quote, but then I can't add my own text, or when I finally succeed in writing my own text, the quoted text is no longer in a neat rectangle. So I'll avoid the official quote option for now.

Phil,

You just need to learn some html coding. I use the 'Gimpy Netscape text box' in Mozilla and can easily do bold, italics, underline, and font size changes. It is also fairly easy to add links or images.
