Interesting - I was at the Johnstown one - did we meet? [not remember seeing a hairy faced person, tho....;-)]

Robert, I don't remember meeting you but your name is familiar. So maybe we did and just aren't recognizing the photos.

Bob, I was sure impressed with John Lewis. His lectures on Ancient Greek politics were inspired and inspiring. I liked everything about the guy.

He [John Lewis] had been working all his life in the insurance industry in Hartford, Connecticut, if I recall, when I met him years ago at a summer conference.
I met a John Lewis at TJS in 1987 who worked for an insurer. But I doubt it's the same John Lewis who is now the professor at Ashland University in Ohio. This page http://www.classicalideals.com/resume.htm  says the latter worked for the Simplex Time Recorder Company in Massachusetts 1978-1996, and is thus consistent with Luke saying he had been working as an electrical contractor.

It's possible I misremember what he did or that he did both insurance and the other at different times-not very important. (I am impressed that he didn't even have a B.A. until he started on this long quest, though).

I've made my summer conference plans at last and I'll be attending the ARI conference for only $315 and that includes bringing a guest (I've often joked that the word "only" never belongs in a sentence together with the word "money" but I'm breaking my own rule because this really is a bargain.)

I've never attended an Objectivist conference before primarily due to my money and time priorities. I usually prefer to use those resources in planing time away with my wife who has zero interest in Objectivism (In spite of this, I do have to admire her incredible good taste in men among other positive attributes she has.)

I am still planning to take a vacation with my wife this year and also will be going to the ARI conference because,
1) The conference is just sixty miles away from my house making it very convenient (I'll be driving there and back every day I attend, minimizing travel costs and entirely negating housing costs,) and
2) I called and ARI is allowing me to sign up "a la carte" for one general session lecture and one optional course, which in turn allows me to optimize my priorities within my budget.

I'll be attending Lisa VanDamme's "Motivation in Education" lecture on Saturday, July 1st with my daughter who is very interested in education issues (She would, like Ms. VanDamme has, like to start her own school some day.)

I'll also be attending, without my daughter, John Lewis' course "The Greco-Persian Wars" which includes three ninety minute lectures over three consecutive days (I'm in the first session, July 1st-3rd.) Four and 1/2 hours of classroom time with John Lewis for only $135?! Now that is really a bargain and I'm greatly looking forward to it.

We offer both full-time and part-time, a la carte options for attending the Objectivist Center/Atlas Society Summer. Some folks with busy schedules sometimes will come for only part of the week -- though most prefer the Galt's Gulch experience of an entire week!

Here's a link to the PDF of the schedule:

Here's the page that lists prices and links to online registration:

Here's the link for part-time.
