Ed Hudgins: But I will admit here, publicly, on this tread, that I am Bi! By that I mean that I like both Wagner and the Italians -- Puccini, Verdi. La mia madre se chiama DiCamillo.

boooo …. hisssss……

You traitor!

As to Newberry and Ciro, it’s a karmic thing, you wouldn’t understand.

How can any intelligent and perceptive man possibly fail to see the unparalleled superiority of the master of Bayreuth?

Hehehehe

George

George, Phil, et al. -- Saw Parsifal by Wagner last night at the Kennedy Center. Great! Orchestra, the Kirov, milked the music for all it was worth. The whole Transformation scene in Act I was marvellous. Good sets, singing and staging. Okay, you need to ignore Wagner's mixed up Christian mysticism. But still, it's hours of the best entertainment you could want! That's what I do for entertainment and I'm posting this on the entertainment thread as well!

Gracie Lei, Ciro!

I'd love to try your fine food. When does your restaurant open?

I'm very ecumenical when it comes to food and restaurants; I like all types.

DC has lots of favorite places. Otellos on Connecticut, just below Dupont Circle, is a nice one for Italian. I think they still serve a good gnocchi, which I used to get from my aunt from Italy but she's pretty old now and doesn't cook much any more. For pizza, the original Ledos in College Park's the place; the crispy bacon pizza is unbeatable!

There's a good India place a couple doors away from Otellos-- Heritage India? The White Tiger at 3rd and Mass. NE, on Capitol Hill, is an old favorite of mine. A small place, the Aroma Indian, between 19the and 20th, is quite good and I recall the Taj of Indian on M St in Georgetown, at around 28th as being pretty good.

There are a couple of Ethiopian places on 18th St. in Adams Morgan but the old Red Sea, closed now, was my favorite.

The Lebanese Tavera on Connecticut is great for Middle Eastern food.

For German, the Old Europe on Wisconsin is by far the best, but you can get some good far at the Cafe Berlin at 3rd and Mass. NE and at the Amadeus in downtown.

The Daily Grill is great for steaks, and priced reasonably as well.

So when all of you RofRers visit DC, after enjoying Ciro's place you might want to try some of these.

Ciao! ragazzi!

Cosima was the daughter of Franz Liszt and his mistress Marie d'Agoult. Although she may have been born in Italy when Liszt and Marie were traveling, she grew up in France AFAIK, so she's hardly an Italian woman.
