I remember reading a book on Summerhill a (fairly quite) while back. Didn't it a have a 'progressive' non-structured environmental, non-Montessorian orientation? Sort of like Dewey-squared?
Am aware of Montessori's bio. Unfortunate that the American version/perspective ended up having some falling out with the European schools; unclear on the details, (hence, which is 'better'), but, if affordable, as a private school it's gotta be better than the standard ones (public and private) that we have. Anyhoo, knowing enough about her methodology (and reasons for) allows 'home-schooling' to various degrees, whether it be complete or partial. In my case it's partial.
Will check out Farson.
Sharon:
Hadn't thought of Piaget having a 'philosophy' per se, though he really got into developmental ('Genetic')-epistemology.
Will check out Weikart...and Vygotzky. Not familiar with the latter. Thanx.
