That's an interesting "point" but I meant how many border states do the two states which border on the largest number of other states have, and which two states are they? I was not speaking of at just on vertex. (In one episode of the Simpsons, they visit the "five corners".) And do the four corner states actually border their diagonals? I'd be tempted to argue that they do not, since I would define a border as a length, and a point has no length. But if one considers quantuum fluctuations, then I would assume one could postulate that they border on an indeterminate length approximating the Planck Length.

The proper question was "What are MO & TN?" but I sanctioned you both.

I originally came up with the question by wondering whether the fact that a state borders on many states might affect its economy positively by giving more opportunities for commerce. The specific inspiration to that question was the fact that there is a large trade in alcohol from Staten Island to New Jersey after the liquor stores close in NJ at 10pm.

When leaving the 'New Madrid Bend' region of Fulton County, Kentucky in any direction, which state are you guaranteed not to enter first?

1] Tennessee.
2] Missouri
3] Kentucky

Yikes.

regards,
Fred

Robert:

Fulton County, KY is divided into two parts, and one of them, the New Madrid Bend section, is surrounded on all sides by Tennessee and Missouri, not any other part of Kentucky, including...the balance of Fulton County, KY.

So, to drive across the entire extent of Fulton County, KY, you must leave Kentucky, enter another state, and then re-enter Kentucky.

A local topological oddity which makes you go "Hmmmmmmmm..."

regards,
Fred
