missed one - in the name of the best within you, come be with the best within me...

The line my husband used when he first proposed was "because I am the best, and you are the best!"    I thought he was nut. I still think he is.

"In the name of the best within you... do not let your fire go out, spark by irreplaceable spark, in the hopeless swamps of the approximate, the not-quite, the not-yet, the not-at-all. Do not let the hero in your soul perish, in lonely frustration for the life you deserved, but have never been able to reach. Check your road and the nature of your battle. The world you desired can be won, it exists, it is real, it is possible, it's yours."

Or, for a different occasion:

"On the tower stairs the slender queen-priestess of the sacred city lay at the Viking's feet. Her head bent so low that her golden hair swept the steps and he could see her breasts as,breathing tremulously, they touched the ground. Her hands lay still and helpless on the steps, the palms turned up, hungry in silent entreaty. But it was not mercy they were begging of him."

Of course, a true pickup line must chord the abstract music of another's motion of soul and draw it onward, through this moment... you must understand the wantings of the one to which you speak.  Perhaps the closest to a general form might be, "what would you do if you were not afraid?" turned to "I will let you go where you have desperately wanted yet feared... you have, but to touch me...".

We can only vote for one? I thought they were all pretty good...I'm just going to vote my least favorite, number three. The rest are gold...

No pickup lines involving who is John Galt?

Call me old-fashioned, but I don't really consider these to be pick-up lines. I think they should be used a little bit later on. At the "shall we go back to my place for a cup of coffee?" stage.

Anyway, number 3 was also my favourite.

How about:
"Wanna make my head fountain?"
"Man is an end in himself. Now, how about showing me the end of yourself?"
"I know you're an atheist, but I bet I can make you scream 'Oh God.' "

Some of the lines given remind me of one of the most memorable comedic incidents I saw over 2004. The excellent 'Angels in America' has just played in New Zealand. Just after Lewis and the Mormon (can't remember his name) have a fight in his apartment and they're both recovering, Lewis, dabbing a bloody nose, says something like, 'Great, we've just enacted a love scene in an Ayn Rand novel' :)

One of those little moments I guess, which worked because it was so unexpected: 99% of the people watching would never have understood the reference.

(I suspect the writer may have been a lefty, however ...?)

After a little spading I tried out what I thought was a good one last night (one needs to work quickly with midnight closing):

Me: "So what are you getting yourself for Xmas?"
Her: "Nothing. You?"
Me: "I'm still working on it - I'll let you know tomorrow morning if I get what I want."

She liked it - her nearby friend did not and dragged her away.

Just came across this as I'm trying to catch up on what I've been missing out on.

How about:

"Is that Atlas Shrugged in your pocket, or are you just pleased to see me?"
