Ed,

"If you begin to preach to me about what we're here for,.. I found that presumptuous -- and it got under my skin."

There's the problem Ed. I wasn't preaching to you. I was simply giving you my point of view. I have quite a lot of goodwill towards you and I respect you. Yet you are riled by me. Perhaps you are a little thin skinned. You are right, you have been on this forum longer than I have. But I have almost two decades longer on this earth than you have. I was walking around on an attack carrier, the USS Saratoga, in 1968 with a copy of "The Unknown Ideal" in my back pocket, and discussing that and "The Virtue of Selfishness" with any of my shipmates who cared to listen. One lifer called me "some kind of sea lawyer". But no, I haven't been here for much longer than about a year. I haven't written any articles. Let me get my feet wet for just a little longer if you please. I'm not in a hurry. I am, in fact, quite busy in my real life.

Hong,
==============
You are so wrong, Ed. How long have you been on this forum, ... all of these have absolutely nothing to do with the validity of one's ideas.
==============

You are right about that, Hong. Idea-validity is independent of circumstance. But the point is that Mike was assuming that I didn't know/regard the direction of RoR, and the fact is -- is that I do.

===================
I found that presumptuous -- and it got under my skin.

I found this unfortunate.
===================

Unfortunate that I'd have these feelings? That I'd judge folks by whether or not they held context over my past writings on this forum? I know about the importance of RoR, Hong. Don't question that. In fact, I've written that it is the most important human endeavor ever (reference upon request).

It is unsettling how easily you are able to jump to such a bold conclusion, Hong.

Ed

Okay.

=============
Perhaps you are a little thin skinned.
=============

Perhaps. The 2 things that must always be noted in an assessment of someone's skin-thickness are: 1) predetermined context and 2) forcefulness of insinuation. I felt that both were quite excessive, though I understand that this was not your understanding.

And good on you, Mike. It's a pleasure to come across a soldier of ethical individualism. I mean, you were on the Saratoga -- preaching Randian ethics -- when I was still in diapers. I mean, it wasn't until the latter part of age 3, when I had finally, fully-understood the non-initiation of force principle, and its application to societal politics (and I had to have it read to me, of course)! All I can say is that you certainly had a head start on me, I'll give you that!

;-)
