P-BO (president Barack Obama) makes 5 points here:

1) the young and misunderstood pick up on Objectivism, but not the older or the more understood among us
2) rational self-interest involves not thinking about anybody else
3) our relations to other people are as or more important than is our very own self-development
4) making sure that everybody else has opportunity is our duty (as or more important than our very own self-development)
5) self-development and personal aspiration -- the ambition to dream big and work hard and personally reap the rewards -- are not what's best in America

He is worthy!
Worthy of comtempt
Worthy of condemnation
Worthy of the title "Most Un-American President in history"
..ugh, one could write a book in POINT form on his anti-life affirming world view and horrible nature.

He's describing his own Ivy League radical chic hipster-dufus preoccupation with Marx, etc, totally deriguer at 17 when you've AA'd your way into the Ivies...

He's fooling nobody with that haughty leglifting.

The last thing on his mind these days is Rand; he's panicked, like a trapped rat, desperate to cling to the gig. He knows he's losing, and the desperation is starting to make him and his inner circle stink.

There's only one remaining question left as this unfolds; how low will he go to cling to power?

He's starting to actually snarl. The only thing helping him is Trump and his five million dollar insult.

Though it does beg the question; how much is it worth to him not to let us all see what kind of PolitSci basket weaving courses he slept through in college?

Not only did nothing but lied about it all!!
Not only was it an act of terror, but it was an act of war!! What does the weasley appeasement loving shitbag do? Frigging apologizes for a movie that was made in a FREE country because it OFFENDED a bunch of superstitious murderous nihilists!!
Cant believe people will actually vote for him!

As Ayn Rand herself said, "Don't Let It Go." She meant never to release that childlike wonder at the world's possibilities. I have seen comments to the novel and film Atlas Shrugged describing it as a pre-teen's revenge novel. Well, yes, actually. Such a novel was long overdue. It seems the tribalist world conspires against the individual from birth in an effort to crush the soul, the Self, in favor of whatever the mob wants and demands. She said a firm and unyielding "no" to that effort.

Thank Galt for that!
I just finished reading "We The Living" (second time)
That book should be mandatory reading material in all schools!

Jules, you just said that we should force kids to read Ayn Rand in school because that is the best way to influence teenagers. Would you let them read the works of other authors?

There are Objectivists willing to vote for Obama?

Or are you joking?

Not forced MEM what I am saying is often (at least when I was in school) we were given a choice of novels in which to do book reports on, Catcher in the Rye, Grapes of Wrath, Catch-22, Flowers for Algernon etc.
It would be good to see some of Ayn Rand's books included in the curriculum.
However since 99% of schools are run by leftist post modernist mind shriveling compachicos the last thing they want is for kids to actually be able to THINK.
I stand corrected, thank you Michael

Haha Kyle no I do not believe there is a single objectivist that would vote for Obamullah.

You guys must have missed the memo. Peikoff has preached "Vote Democrat" for years on the grounds that voting otherwise would usher us into a theocracy. As you can guess, he has caught much flak for that and this has led to the usual drama one can expect over such clashes.

On a positive note, the "normal" high school I left in 1982 in the rural south to attend a "gifted" high school in the urban south has recently garnered my respect. The Seniors Honors English class at "Normal High School" uses Atlas Shrugged for its summer reading program before grade 12. By contrast, although "Gifted High School" no longer teaches Howard Zinn as part of its American Studies program, a recent Objectivist-leaning graduate from there still calls the school faculty "all flaming liberals"!

Luke,

Both major parties are fighting in the name of their respective God, evidently neither God favors liberty.

Jules,

It's always good to have freedom-lovers outside the U.S., in fact, freedom-lovers tend to reside outside the U.S., in despotic countries.

That sentence, well worded, jumped out of the page at me and hit me right in the eye. Good stuff.

re this: "That book should be mandatory reading material in all schools!"

Not sure how you plan to force teachers in private schools to adopt your reading agenda. Or why you seem to implicitly support continuing public schools, instead of disbanding them all and letting the marketplace sort out what books teachers assign students in an attempt to attract paying customers.

Hmmm, trying to think of any national politician, of any party, that openly admits to not being religious. Or, with a few prominent exceptions, that eschews theocratic policies like bans on prostitution or whatnot.

You know, P-BO is provably wrong on all 5 points, but it's still kinda' cool to see a sitting US president address the issue of Ayn Rand and Objectivism. To me, that's a sign of cultural progress. In fact, I think it'd be neat if all future presidents addressed the issue of Ayn Rand and Objectivism. Let's keep the issue on the table!

Ayn Rand is not a thing, she is a person, but whatever.

Luke and Jules, Atlas Shrugged was on the list of book options in my junior year AP-level American History class in a public school in the not-quite-rural South.  It was also on the reading list of a friend's son in a private Catholic high school in southeast Louisiana.  It may be rare, but it does happen sometimes in unexpected places.

My niece teaches high school (public) and she was able to work with the Ayn Rand Institute to get free copies of Atlas Shrugged for her class.

[Edited to correct error pointed out below by Luke. I had misnamed the Institute. Thanks, Luke.]
