My impression of what
My impression of what's original to Objectivism

Basically?: Start with the kind of being that you are (one who knows via a certain means and not via other means) -- and integrate, integrate, integrate. (Read the entire blog entry)

Teaching Your Spouse to Drive -- NOT!
Teaching Your Spouse to Drive -- NOT!

Poor Leslie! The ignorance and fallacies of my plan became evident soon enough. I quickly learned that teaching someone to drive requires nerves of steel and the patience of a saint. I have neither. Between my shortcomings as a teacher and her own terror of making a mistake, instructing her in basic driving skills became a mutually masochistic relationship. (Read the entire blog entry)

My revision of Desiderata
My revision of Desiderata

My attempt to improve on (i.e., to "fix") the imperfections of Desiderata. Some might gasp at that. Some may become furious. I admit that it does seem pretty haughty for me to take someone's art and treat it as if it were a bucket full of holes -- only to attempt to fill in the holes myself. It's either terribly insulting to the original artist, or it's the greatest compliment you could give them.

Some may say: "Don't knock it until you try it" or "Why don't you create something instead of knocking something down?" I have got to concede that point (it's a great point, actually). My only response -- and it is admittedly only a response and not a rebuttal -- my only response is that I still am selectively recreating reality according to my own metaphysical value-judgements; I'm just selecting to recreate another's work (effectively passing judgment on it). It's what I might try to call an exercise in "interpretive art" -- my interpretation of deficiency in Ehrmann's art. (Read the entire blog entry)

Winter Wonder Land
Winter Wonder Land

Pine trees captured rain by freezing it on their limbs, crashed down on power lines all across New Hampshire early this morning. I woke up to a huge crash of a limb falling on a power line right outside my residence. But now... the power line is resting on a plastic garbage bin and I have power again! Wahoo! Appropriate names for new cars out of Detroit
Appropriate names for new cars out of Detroit

The current scenario of the Detroit 3 automakers pleading for our tax dollars as a bailout is really the government's fault. Most things are the government's fault. Rand defended railroad tycoons who ended up bribing legislatures for land, because corrupt legislatures were the nature or source of the evil. They still are today. Even still, I got this idea by listening to the radio today -- new cars made here should be appropriately named in order to be honest ...  (Read the entire blog entry)
